Fans in Bonner Springs, Kansas, were treated to a memorable surprise Friday night when several past and present members of Kansas took the stage together during the encore at the Azura Amphitheater.
Alongside the band’s current touring lineup, drummer Phil Ehart, guitarist Richard Williams, and former members Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope reunited for powerful renditions of “Hold On” and the classic anthem “Carry On Wayward Son.”
Though Livgren and Hope officially left the group years ago, they’ve occasionally made guest appearances. Ehart and Williams remain official members but have been stepping back recently due to health concerns.
Ehart suffered a serious heart attack in 2024 and was temporarily replaced by drum tech Eric Holmquist, while Williams announced earlier this year that vision issues caused by macular degeneration have limited his ability to travel. To ensure Kansas could continue touring, guitarist Scott Bernard was added to the lineup alongside Zak Rizvi. Williams has emphasized that he still intends to perform whenever possible.
Photos of the onstage reunion were shared on Kansas’ official social channels, along with a full set list and fan-filmed clips of the encore.
Kansas is currently touring with 38 Special and Jefferson Starship. Their next stop is Saturday night in St. Louis, with the tour scheduled to wrap up on January 30 in Meridian, Mississippi.
